What is trauma and childhood experiences?

Trauma includes the lasting effects of childhood emotional neglect, abuse, or other difficult experiences, along with more recent traumatic events. Symptoms can include hypervigilance, difficulty trusting others, flashbacks, or patterns that trace back to early experiences.

Cultural norms around not airing family matters outside the home can make it especially hard for Muslim clients to name childhood trauma, particularly when it involves family members. That silence doesn't make the impact any less real.

How it shows up for Muslims

🌧️ Depression and burnout
😰 Anxiety and overthinking
🕊️ Grief and loss
💪 Self-esteem and perfectionism
🛡️ Islamophobia and discrimination stress

Our treatment approach

Our therapists help clients process trauma at their own pace, using approaches suited to their specific experiences, and create a space to talk honestly about what happened without fear of judgment, where faith can be part of healing rather than separate from it.
